I had the privilege to travel to Macedonia with Eric Metaxas and East West Ministries. East-West's mission is to take the gospel of Jesus Christ into the darkest parts of the world. Occasionally their mission strategy is to reach the cultural elites, as was the case in Macedonia with Eric Metaxas. Eric is a New York Times best selling author of the books, Amazing Grace, and Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Prophet, Martyr, Spy. Using the stories of William Wilberforce from Amazing Grace, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Metaxas was able to share the stories of these men and how through Jesus Christ, they were able to change the world. Wilberforce was the force who ended the slave trade in Europe in the early 1800's through his political position. His story was the connecting point for Eric to speak with the President of Macedonia, their Parliament, various Universities, and television shows.

These photos were taken in Northern Iraq in 2015 in the midst of the ISIS crisis. There are roughly 1.5 million refugees in this region. Some of these images were taken in refugee camps, Saddam's old palace, a 1400 year old church and in the cave home of the man who guards it, the oldest inhabited city in the world (Erbil), and on the front lines of the Kurdish military and ISIS.

Though Albania was a closed Communist country not long ago, and Kosovo had been war torn, some of the leadership in those nations are making a shift taking inspiration from such revolutionaries as William Wilberforce and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, whose lives have been chronicled by Eric Metaxas, a messenger of Light.
